Slow living journal prompts

Slow living isn't about owning a linen apron. It's noticing: the kettle, the light, the bird on the fence. These are prompts for writing slowly about small things — the kind of page that's better with a pot of tea.

  1. 1What's the first thing I noticed this morning?
  2. 2Describe my favourite mug and what I drink from it.
  3. 3What's a small ritual that makes my day better?
  4. 4What did I see out of the window today?
  5. 5What's something I made by hand recently?
  6. 6Where do I rush when I don't need to?
  7. 7What does my ideal slow Sunday look like, hour by hour?
  8. 8What's in season right now?
  9. 9What's a sound I heard today that I'd usually ignore?
  10. 10Describe a meal I cooked slowly.
  11. 11What could I do without this week?
  12. 12What's a walk I love, and what do I pass on it?
  13. 13What's growing — in a pot, a garden, or a hedgerow near me?
  14. 14Which object in my home has a story?
  15. 15What would I do with an afternoon and no phone?
  16. 16What's a smell that makes me feel calm?
  17. 17What does 'home' mean to me today?
  18. 18Who's someone who seems to live slowly? What can I learn from them?
  19. 19What's something I used to rush that I now enjoy?
  20. 20What am I content with, right now, just as it is?

How to use these

Pick one, set a timer for ten minutes, and write without stopping to correct anything. Don't worry about answering the question exactly — the prompt is only there to get the pen moving. If one doesn't land, skip it. Try the random prompt generator if you can't choose.
