February journal prompts

February is the month of love, which is lovely if you like Valentine's Day and a bit much if you don't. These prompts cover all of it — friends, family, favourite places, the cat — and leave the heart-shaped chocolates optional.

  1. 1Who made me laugh most this winter? Write down what they said.
  2. 2What does being loved look like in small, everyday ways?
  3. 3Write a thank-you letter to a friend you've never properly thanked.
  4. 4Which place do I love most, and when did I last go there?
  5. 5What's something I love about myself that I rarely say out loud?
  6. 6Describe the first time I met my best friend.
  7. 7What's a song that reminds me of someone? Why?
  8. 8List the small things someone did for me this month.
  9. 9What would my perfect, entirely unromantic day off look like?
  10. 10Which book, film or show do I love more than is reasonable?
  11. 11How do I like to be looked after when I'm ill or tired?
  12. 12Write about a pet — mine, a friend's, or one from childhood.
  13. 13What's the kindest thing a stranger has ever done for me?
  14. 14What signs of spring have I noticed so far?
  15. 15Who could I surprise with a letter this week?

How to use these

Pick one, set a timer for ten minutes, and write without stopping to correct anything. Don't worry about answering the question exactly — the prompt is only there to get the pen moving. If one doesn't land, skip it. Try the random prompt generator if you can't choose.
